Our policies are tailor-made for the commercial aquaculture and aquatic ornamental industries world-wide.  Stock mortality cover can be arranged for marine and freshwater finned fish, crustaceans, molluscs, reptiles and amphibians held on both offshore and onshore commercial farms along with aquatic animals held in public and large private aquaria, including exotic species, cetaceans and other mammals.

Cover can be arranged against losses from any or all of a wide range of perils, including:

Pollution

Insurance against loss resulting from all forms of pollution, from effluent discharge into streams and rivers to major environmental disasters. These events can and do greatly affect every sector of global aquaculture.

Predation or physical damage by predators or other aquatic organisms

Seals, otters, mink, and many species of bird are among the wide range of potential predators, which along with blooms of jellyfish can cause significant damage or mortality to your stock.

Storm Damage

Protects aquaculture facilities against storm damage. Those in the marine environment are particularly vulnerable.

Freezing, supercooling, ice damage

Unexpected cold snaps, extreme winters or increasing temperatures that cause ice floes to break up, all constitute risks to companies operating in high latitude regions.

Deoxygenation / Change in chemical constituents of water

Continuously suitable and stable water quality is a vital component in maintaining healthy stocks, but events such as algal blooms, runoff after heavy rain, competing biological activity and even unexpected high temperatures can cause major disruptions.

Disease

Diseases, whether caused by viral, bacterial, fungal, uni- or multi-cellular pathogens or parasites constitute the single greatest risk to commercial aquaculture stocks the world over.

Flood

By necessity aquaculture farms are located near a suitable water supply, which inevitably means many are vulnerable to flooding.

Mechanical or electrical breakdown

Whether merely using a simple extraction pump or a high-tech recirculation system, the vast majority of intensive onshore fish farms are highly dependent upon technology.  Supported by good management practices, alarm systems and component maintenance and replacement, this technology is reliable but not infallible. Breakdowns and mistakes can and do occur.

Subsidence / landslip

Particularly relevant to onshore farms, insurance to protect against losses attributal to the structural failure of the fish farm buildings, tanks, and raceways, or the breakage/blockage of the water supply caused by an unexpected event such as subsidence, a landslip or earthquake.

Drought, fire, lightning, explosion, earthquake

Increasingly unpredictable weather patterns are causing unexpected drought and flooding events in many parts of the world.  Equally extreme high temperatures and lightning along with simple mistakes constitute a risk of fire, all of which can be hazardous to your stock.

Theft and malicious acts

The monetary value of stock held on commercial fish farms is substantial, and as such can be attractive to thieves, disgruntled ex-employees and local resource competitors, who along with environmental and animal rights extremists constitute a risk to the financial well-being of your farm.

Each and every commercial fish farm or aquarium is subject to a different set of risks; consequently individual farmers and curators will formulate their own risk management strategies. Our policies are designed to be flexible in order to accommodate this, and as such you can choose one, all or any combination of the perils listed above that best suits your individual needs.

In addition cover can be arranged for:

• product recall
• marine equipment and vessels
• marine liabilities
• live transport of aquatic animals
• cargo and a wide range of other associated risks

Rates, terms and conditions will be set as a result of the risk profile applicable to individual locations, farming system etc., and the range of perils you choose to be covered.
