Since 2007, FP Marine Risks has been offsetting carbon emissions that are generated through the company’s air travel.
FP Marine Risks achieves its “CarbonNeutral Flights” status by working with The CarbonNeutral Company, based in London. Carbon footprint assessments are audited by accountants KPMG, and the offset projects chosen are in accordance with the CarbonNeutral Protocol which assures their quality.
This year, the company has chosen the Gobi Gansu Wind Power project in China, a large project that is generating zero-emissions renewable energy through the installation of wind turbines in Gansu province, northwest China.
Known as a “Gold Standard” project, the Gobi Gansu Windfarm has created 32 permanent jobs (most of which will be filled by people living in surrounding villages) and has involved two rounds of stakeholder consultations (local residents, businesses, schools, governments and not-for-profits). This has resulted in strong local support.
Moreover, the project owner has donated RMB500,000 (GBP50,000) to the “Hope School” in Anxi County. The money was used to construct the building and supply equipment. To comply with the Gold Standard, the project’s sustainable development benefits were monitored and verified.
